Every New and Changed Racial Ability in WoW Forever

Every race in World of Warcraft: Forever now gets exactly two active and two passive racial abilities, and nearly all of them have changed from vanilla. Dwarf and Undead have full official detail from Blizzard; the other seven races’ specifics come from BlizzCon demo observation and are still subject to change in beta.

For the full announcement roundup, see our WoW Classic Plus / Forever hub.

The New Rule: Two Active, Two Passive

Blizzard’s stated goal is giving every race a similar overall offensive budget while keeping each one’s signature utility intact — no race should feel strictly better than another, but each should still feel distinct. One casualty of this rework: the old flat resistance racials (Shadow Resistance for Undead, Nature Resistance for Tauren and Night Elf, Frost Resistance for Dwarf, Arcane Resistance for Gnome) are gone entirely.

Officially Confirmed: Dwarf and Undead

Race Ability Type Effect
Dwarf Stoneform Active Immunity to Bleeds, Poisons, and Diseases, plus a flat 10% physical damage reduction for 8 seconds
Dwarf Find Treasure Active Tracks nearby treasure chests
Dwarf Mace Specialization Passive Maces increase spell and ability critical chance by 1%
Dwarf Big Game Hunter Passive Damage to Beasts increased by 5%

Undead’s changes were covered in our Class Changes guide: Will of the Forsaken still removes Charm, Fear, and Sleep, but no longer grants immunity, and Cannibalize now restores Mana as well as Health.

Demo-Observed: The Other Seven Races

These specifics come from BlizzCon show-floor demos and hands-on reporting, not an official Blizzard publication — treat them as a strong early look, not a locked-in final version.

Race Notable Change
Night Elf New active, Elune’s Light, grants +10% critical strike chance for 15 seconds; Quickness passive now also adds 2% run speed
Gnome New active, Eureka!, reduces ability cost and increases damage or healing
Orc Blood Fury now boosts both Attack Power and Spell Power together
Tauren War Stomp stuns up to 5 nearby enemies; Cultivation grows bonus herbs without needing Herbalism
Troll Berserking remains a core active ability
Human Will to Survive removes stun effects; The Human Spirit still boosts Spirit by 5%

The New Skyborne Race

Skyborne racials include Haste and a unique ability called Skysight, alongside faction-specific class access already covered in our Race and Class Combinations guide.

Tips & Tricks

Treat Dwarf and Undead as your most reliable planning reference. They’re the only two races with full detail straight from Blizzard rather than demo observation.

Don’t lock in a race choice around a specific demo-observed number yet. Percentages and effects for the other seven races can still shift before beta or launch.

Check whether your class’s key racial synergy survived the rework. Several old “best race for X class” assumptions from vanilla may not hold once the full patch notes land.
