Patch Classic WoW

Overview

Zul’Farrak carries one of the largest quest lists of any Classic dungeon — enough that we’ve given it its own dedicated breakdown rather than trying to fit everything into the main dungeon guide. Some of these are simple loot and-turn in objectives you’ll finish in a single run. Others are multi zone chains that start well before you ever set foot in Tanaris.

Gahz’rilla and Carrot on a Stick get their own dedicated guides given how much preparation they require — see our Mallet of Zul’Farrak guide and Carrot on a Stick guide for the full walkthrough on those specifically.

The Longer Chains, Explained

Three of these quests are noticeably more involved than a simple pickup and turn in, and deserve their own explanation before you commit real time to them.

Nekrum’s Medallion

This starts all the way in the Hinterlands with Witherbark Cages, picked up from Gryphon Master Talonaxe. The chain eventually routes you to Thadius Grimshade in the Blasted Lands, who sends you into Zul’Farrak itself to kill Nekrum Gutchewer at the end of the Pyramid Event, looting Nekrum’s Medallion itself. Completing the full chain afterward — one more Blasted Lands step, then two back in the Hinterlands — rewards a real amount of experience and gold, plus your choice of Gryphon Rider’s Stormhammer or Gryphon Rider’s Leggings.

The Spider God

This Horde exclusive chain starts with an item, not an NPC — a Venom Bottle found lying in one of the Witherbark troll camps in the Hinterlands. Picking it up starts the chain, which routes through Apothecary Lydon in Alterac Mountains and a Witherbark Broodguard kill before eventually leading to Master Gadrin in Sen’jin Village, Durotar. The final step is simple once you’re there: click a large dark tablet in Zul’Farrak’s scarab area, near Theka the Martyr.

The Prophecy of Mosh’aru

You can’t pick this one up directly — you need to complete Screecher Spirits first, a separate quest from the same NPC, Yeh’kinya at Steamwheedle Port. Once you have the real quest, it requires looting tablets from two different bosses in the same run: the First Mosh’aru Tablet from Theka the Martyr, and the Second Mosh’aru Tablet from Hydromancer Velratha. Plan your pulls so you don’t accidentally skip either boss on your way through.

Tips & Tricks

Pick up every quest you can before you enter, not partway through. With this many separate quest givers scattered across multiple zones, walking in unprepared means either backtracking constantly or missing objectives you can’t easily return for later.

Prioritize Tiara of the Deep and Scarab Shells if you’re short on time. Both are straightforward loot objectives without a long prerequisite chain attached, unlike Nekrum’s Medallion or The Spider God.

Coordinate long chains ahead of your actual Zul’Farrak run. Nekrum’s Medallion and The Spider God both require real setup days or levels before you’d otherwise be ready for the dungeon — start them early rather than trying to catch up mid-run.

Don’t skip Theka the Martyr or Hydromancer Velratha if you’re going for The Prophecy of Mosh’aru. Both tablets are required, and it’s an easy mistake to clear past one of them without realizing you needed a specific drop.
