Overview
Shadowfang Keep is a level 22-30 dungeon in Silverpine Forest, the castle where Archmage Arugal summoned the worgen and turned the old keep into their den. It’s a Horde-side dungeon, just north of Pyrewood Village, with up to ten bosses, one of them a rare spawn, on the way to Arugal at the top of the keep.
Two things make it harder than its level suggests: the Fel Steeds that always pull together, and Arugal himself, who teleports around his room hitting players with Void Bolts. The keep is also well known for its rare world drops, including the
Shadowfang sword the dungeon is named after.
Location and Level Range
The entrance is just north of Pyrewood Village in southern Silverpine Forest. Horde players fly to The Sepulcher and follow the road south, then west to the keep.
Alliance players have a long trip: most groups fly to Southshore in the Hillsbrad Foothills, follow the main road west into Silverpine Forest, then head west and a little north to the keep.
Opening the Courtyard
After Rethilgore, you’ll find two prisoners in the cells nearby: Deathstalker Adamant for the Horde and Sorcerer Ashcrombe for the Alliance. Talk to your faction’s prisoner and follow him, and he opens the courtyard door for your group. This is the only way forward, so don’t skip the cells.

Critical Mechanics
The Fel Steeds always pull as a group. Pulling one pulls all three, however carefully you do it, and they hit hard. Polymorph one, let a Hunter or Warlock pet hold another, and focus the third. Warn your healer before the pull.
Bring extra melee for the Shadowfang Moonwalkers. These worgen in the courtyard cast Anti-Magic Shield, which makes them immune to spells for 10 seconds. One or two melee damage dealers besides the tank make them much quicker to kill.
Keep casters away from Wailing Guardsmen. Their Screams of the Past silences everyone within 5 yards for 5 seconds, so the healer in particular should keep their distance. This matters again on Commander Springvale, who pulls with one.
Use the platform against Arugal. Arugal teleports around his room. Have ranged players stand on the platform as soon as you enter, where they can hit him wherever he lands, and let melee wait for him to come to them instead of chasing him out of the healer’s sight.
Notable Loot
Shadowfang Keep’s trash can also drop some rare and sought-after weapons and armor, all with low drop chances:
Shadowfang,
Night Reaver,
Black Malice,
Duskbringer,
Witching Stave,
Guillotine Axe,
Face Smasher,
Assassin’s Blade,
Gloomshroud Armor,
Necrology Robes and
Mindthrust Bracers. They’re popular with level 19 twinks.
Quests
All three Shadowfang Keep dungeon quests are Horde-only. A few class quests also take place here, but they aren’t covered in this guide.
Seal of Sylvanas is a blue ring, and for many Horde players it’s the first rare-quality ring they get.
Tips & Tricks
Talk to your faction’s prisoner after Rethilgore. Deathstalker Adamant or Sorcerer Ashcrombe opens the courtyard door, and without them your group can’t go any further.
Plan the Fel Steed pull before anyone moves. Decide who polymorphs, which pet tanks and what dies first, because all three horses come at once.
Grab
The Book of Ur on the way through. It sits on a bookshelf in Fenrus the Devourer’s room, so loot it before you move on to Nandos and Arugal.
Don’t chase Arugal. Ranged players on the platform can hit him wherever he teleports. Melee who chase him tend to pull the healer out of position.
