Overview
Ragefire Chasm is a short level 13-18 dungeon in the volcanic caves beneath Orgrimmar, where troglodytes and the demon-worshipping Searing Blade cult have taken hold. It’s widely considered the easiest dungeon in the game: four bosses, a straightforward path, and simple mechanics, which makes it most Horde players’ first dungeon.
There’s no boss-specific loot worth farming here beyond six modest drops from Taragaman the Hungerer and Jergosh the Invoker. The real reward is the six Horde quests, which pay out good experience and useful early upgrades, so pick them all up before you go in.
Location and Level Range
The entrance is a portal deep inside the Cleft of Shadow in Orgrimmar. Horde players can simply walk in. Enemies inside are level 13-16, and the four bosses are level 16, so a group of level 14-16 players clears it comfortably.
Getting there as Alliance is very hard, because the entrance sits in the middle of a Horde capital. The usual route is the boat to Ratchet, then north through the Barrens to Orgrimmar’s west entrance, and a corpse run into the Cleft of Shadow until you can zone in.
Boss Quick Reference
Critical Mechanics
Watch the edges on Taragaman’s platform. His Uppercut knocks the tank backwards, and the platform is surrounded by lava. Have the tank turn him so the tank’s back is to the middle of the platform, not the lava.
Every boss except Taragaman brings two adds. At this level few groups have much crowd control, so use what you have: a Mage’s Polymorph, a Warlock’s Fear or a Hunter’s trap on one add, and kill the other before the boss.
Bazzalan hits hard. You can pull the add on the right (his left) without aggroing him, which makes the last fight much easier. After that, burn him down quickly, because his poison and Sinister Strike keep the healer busy.
Notable Loot
Each of these drops roughly one time in three, except the two weapons (
Cursed Felblade and
Chanting Blade), which drop about one time in six. Oggleflint and Bazzalan only drop random world loot.
Quests
All six Ragefire Chasm quests are Horde-only.
The
Hidden Enemies chain starts at level 12. Thrall first sends you to show a
Lieutenant’s Insignia, which drops from Elder Mottled Boars in Durotar, to Neeru Fireblade. Only the second step happens inside the dungeon, and the last two are short conversations with Neeru and Thrall back in Orgrimmar.
Tips & Tricks
Collect the quests from three cities before you go in. Rahauro is in Thunder Bluff and Varimathras is in Undercity, so grab them while you’re passing through, along with Thrall’s and Neeru’s quests in Orgrimmar.
Start
Hidden Enemies early. The first step needs a
Lieutenant’s Insignia from the boars in Durotar, so pick it up from Thrall while you’re still questing there.
Kill everything. Ragefire Chasm is short, and at this level the trash experience adds up, along with the troggs and shaman you need for
Testing an Enemy’s Strength.
Let a Mage, Warlock or Hunter handle the adds. Three of the four bosses have two adds each, and controlling one of them is the difference between an easy run and a messy one at this level.
