Overview

Razorfen Downs is a level 37-47 dungeon in the southern Barrens, the second of the two Razorfen dungeons and the sister dungeon to Razorfen Kraul. The quillboar here have allied with the Scourge, and the final boss, Amnennar the Coldbringer, is a lich.

The dungeon has two events worth knowing about before you go in: a gong that summons waves of spiders and the boss Tuten’kash, and an optional escort for Belnistrasz that ends with Plaguemaw the Rotting. Both factions have quests to kill Amnennar, and the reward is one of the better leveling weapons around.

Location and Level Range

The entrance is in the far south of the Barrens, just north of The Great Lift to Thousand Needles. Travel to the southern part of the zone and head east before you reach the lift. Alliance players usually take the boat from Booty Bay to Ratchet and run south from there.

Enemies inside cover roughly levels 37-47.

Critical Mechanics

Stack on the tank for Frost Nova. Freezing Spirits, a common trash mob, and Amnennar both cast Frost Nova. Standing on the tank means nobody gets frozen out of position.

Face Amnennar toward his tent. Tanking him facing the tent he stands in neutralizes Amnennar’s Wrath. Switch to the Frost Spectres the moment he summons them.

Kill Mordresh’s skeletons quickly. The last pack of dancing skeletons pulls Mordresh Fire Eye with it. Use area damage to clear them fast, then burn him down. His low armor makes him easy for melee.

Protect Belnistrasz. Extinguishing the Idol fails if he dies during his ritual. Have an off-tank pick up the mobs that go for him, and kill them one at a time.

Notable Loot

Two notable bind-on-equip items also drop from the trash: the Freezing Shard wand and the Manslayer two-handed axe.

You need to be level 39 as Alliance, or 37 as Horde, to pick up all the Razorfen Downs quests.

Ambassador Malcin is outside the instance and can spawn in several places, so look around the entrance area. Vanquisher’s Sword, from Bring the Light and Bring the End, is a strong weapon to level with.

Tips & Tricks

Bring the Small Scroll from Razorfen Kraul. Horde players who loot it from Charlga Razorflank can start An Unholy Alliance and finish it here.

Pick up A Host of Evil on the way in. Myriam Moonsinger is right outside the entrance, and the mobs it asks for are spread through the dungeon.

Plan the gong event. Each spider wave has to be cleared before you ring the gong again, and Tuten’kash comes after the last wave.

Interrupt the casters. Mordresh’s Fireball, Ragglesnout’s Heal and Amnennar’s Frostbolt are all worth stopping, so assign interrupts before each pull.
