Patch Classic WoW

Dire Maul East — the Warpwood Quarter — is the easiest of the three wings and the only one that needs no key at all. It’s non. linear, meaning your group can approach bosses in a few different orders depending on what you’re actually here for.

GOOD TO KNOW

Only one boss in this wing is technically required to consider the wing “complete”: Zevrim Thornhoof. Everyone else — including the final boss, Alzzin the Wildshaper — is optional if all you want is the Crescent Key.

Layout and Entrances

There are three physical entrances into East Wing. Two lead to the upper level and need no key. The third requires the Crescent Key and drops you at the opposite end of the instance — useful as a shortcut back in in later visits.

Boss Guide

Pusillin

Isn’t a real fight he’s a level 56-57 elite imp who runs from you once you start talking to him, leading your group on a chase through the upper level before he’ll actually stand and fight. Every player in the group can loot the Crescent Key from his corpse, along with a cooking recipe.

Hydrospawn

Summons Hydroling adds throughout the fight and has a real, disruptive knockback wave. Clear the trash surrounding his room before engaging — getting knocked back into a pack of adds you didn’t clear first turns an easy fight into a messy one.

Lethtendris

A Warlock type demoness, fights alongside her Imp companion Pimgib. Kill Pimgib first — he has low health and effectively no armor — then turn your full attention to Lethtendris herself.

Zevrim Thornhoof

Is the one mandatory boss in this wing. He’s a satyr with real spellcasting pressure; interrupt what you can and treat this as the fight worth taking most seriously here.

Alzzin the Wildshaper

Is East Wing’s actual final boss, and reaching him requires an extra step: after clearing the large central room, speak to Old Ironbark, a tree NPC standing there. He’ll head north and smash open the door leading to Alzzin. The fight itself is honestly easy relative to the buildup — Alzzin shapeshifts between wolf and treant forms, but neither form hits especially hard.

Isalien is an optional, quest gated encounter — she won’t appear at all unless you’ve completed Lethtendris’s Web first, picked up from Latronicus Moonspear or Talo Thornhoof in Feralas.

Critical Mechanics

Alzzin requires Old Ironbark, not a direct approach. There’s no way to simply walk up to Alzzin’s door — you need to trigger Old Ironbark first by speaking to him after clearing the central room. Skipping this step just means standing in front of a locked door wondering why nothing’s happening.

Hydrospawn’s knockback punishes sloppy pulls. Clear the surrounding trash before you engage him specifically — his knockback wave can scatter your group into adds you left alive, turning a simple fight into a much messier one.

Quests

The main quest tied to this wing is Lethtendris’s Web picked up from either Latronicus Moonspear or Talo Thornhoof in Feralas — completing it is what unlocks the optional Isalien encounter. See our full Dire Maul Quests Guide for the rest of the dungeon’s quest content across all three wings.

Farming Opportunities

Beyond the bosses themselves, East Wing has two real farming uses. A tunnel past Alzzin’s room contains Rich Thorium Veins, worth a detour if you’re leveling Mining. Whip Lashers throughout the wing are also commonly soloed for loot and experience outside of a full group run.

Tips & Tricks

Mark Pusillin clearly before engaging. With a chase mechanic and several smaller imps around him, losing track of which target is actually Pusillin wastes real time.

Decide as a group whether Alzzin is worth the detour. If you only need the Crescent Key, you can skip straight past everything except Pusillin and Zevrim Thornhoof.

Check if anyone in your group wants the Lethtendris’s Web quest before you start. It’s easy to miss the Isalien encounter entirely if nobody’s picked up the prerequisite quest first.

Don’t ignore the Thorium vein tunnel if you’re leveling Mining. It’s a convenient bonus most groups walk right past.
