Overview
Dire Maul North — the Gordok Commons — is the hardest of the three wings, and the only one with two different ways to run it. A normal clear means killing every boss in sequence. A Tribute Run means avoiding almost all of them, using specific tricks and items to slip past each guard, so that only King Gordok actually dies. Both are covered here in full.
Don’t have a
Crescent Key yet? See our full Crescent Key guide — North Wing requires it just like West does.
Normal Clear: Boss Guide
Guard Mol’dar
Is surrounded by mastiff dogs, and clearing them before you engage him matters — his Frenzy, triggered around 25-40% health, calls in any nearby mastiffs you left alive. He also has two separate knockback abilities.
Stomper Kreeg
The ogre credited with starting the ogre dance — spits alcohol that reduces your hit rating by a real 75%, alongside a knockback and stun combo. Fight him long enough and your group will visibly become “drunk” from the effect.
Guard Fengus
Patrols a plaza containing multiple separate mob groups. Clear carefully rather than pulling everything at once.
Guard Slip’kik
Also patrols, moving between rooms rather than staying put.
Captain Kromcrush S
tands in the final hallway before King Gordok’s room.
King Gordok
The wing’s final boss, is normally fought alongside Cho’Rush the Observer, who heals and buffs him throughout the encounter.
Critical Mechanics (Normal Clear)
Clear Guard Mol’dar’s mastiffs before engaging him. His Frenzy specifically calls in nearby dogs you left alive — a fight that should be simple gets messy fast if the room isn’t clear first.
Notable Loot (Normal Clear)
The Tribute Run
Every boss you leave alive adds one item to your final Tribute Chest — and that per boss reward is generally considered better than what the same boss would have dropped if you’d simply killed it.
Tribute Run Rewards
Killing King Gordok at the end of a successful Tribute Run triggers the Gordok Tribute Chest, containing one item for each boss you left alive. It also spawns an NPC named Mizzle the Crafty, who grants your group the King of the Gordok buff — and it’s this buff specifically that unlocks everything else described below.
You need the King of the Gordok buff before the Guards will talk to you. Simply leaving them alive isn’t enough on its own — speak to Mizzle the Crafty first, then approach the surviving Guards for their individual rewards.
Guard Mol’dar grants
Mol’dar’s Moxie — +15 Stamina for 2 hours.
Guard Fengus grants
Fengus’ Ferocity — +200 Attack Power for 2 hours.
Guard Slip’kik grants
Slip’kik’s Savvy — +3% spell critical strike chance for 2 hours.
Stomper Kreeg, if left alive, becomes a vendor selling alcoholic drinks, including
Volatile Rum — an Alchemy reagent used for Goblin Rocket Fuel.
Beyond these individual rewards, completing the run unlocks a follow up quest,
Unfinished Gordok Business from Captain Kromcrush. This is a one time quest — completing it once means it’s done, not something you can repeat on future successful runs.
If you’re planning to keep running this dungeon regularly, consider leaving Stomper Kreeg and Captain Kromcrush alive specifically — both offer their own quests that only become available after a completed Tribute Run.
Quests
North Wing connects to several quests tied specifically to a completed Tribute Run, including
Unfinished Gordok Business. See our full Dire Maul Quests Guide for the complete breakdown across all three wings.
Tips & Tricks
Decide on Tribute Run vs. normal clear before you enter, not partway through. Killing even one boss you meant to spare ends any chance at the full Tribute Chest for that run.
Bring Frost Oil specifically if you’re attempting a Tribute Run. Without it, there’s no way to freeze Guard Slip’kik and slip past him.
Consider leaving a couple of bosses alive even beyond the minimum. Stomper Kreeg and Captain Kromcrush both unlock their own quests specifically for players who spared them.
