Patch Classic WoW

Overview

Sunken Temple — also known as the Temple of Atal’Hakkar — is a  multi level ruin in the Swamp of Sorrows, built around Hakkar the Soulflayer’s ancient prison. It’s one of the most maze-like dungeons in Classic, with a puzzle mechanic gating one of its key bosses, several paired dragon encounters, and a hidden optional fight most groups never realize they can access.

Summoning Atal’alarion requires activating six statues in a specific order — get it wrong, and the sequence resets. This is involved enough that we’ve given it a full dedicated breakdown. See our Sunken Temple Statue Order guide for the exact sequence.

Dungeon Sections

Section What’s There
Basement Spawn of Hakkar — often skipped entirely by groups heading straight for the main path
Sanctuary (upper ring) The six Atal’ai Defenders, found on balconies overlooking the central area
Pit of Refuge The statue puzzle that summons Atal’alarion
Lair of the Chosen Jammal’an the Prophet and Ogom the Wretched
Pit of Sacrifice Dreamscythe and Weaver
Sanctum of the Fallen God The optional Avatar of Hakkar
Chamber of the Dreamer Morphaz and Hazzas
Eranikus’s Cave The Shade of Eranikus, the true final boss

Boss Quick Reference

Boss Section Key Mechanic Priority
Spawn of Hakkar Basement Straightforward flying enemy Optional; most groups skip this entirely
Zul’Lor, Gasher, Loro, Zolo, Mijan, Hukku (Atal’ai Defenders) Sanctuary Each has a distinct ability; Hukku summons demons All six must die to progress toward Jammal’an
Atal’alarion Pit of Refuge Summoned via the statue puzzle; heavy damage and frequent stuns See our Statue Order guide for the summoning sequence
Jammal’an the Prophet & Ogom the Wretched Lair of the Chosen Paired fight; Ogom has comparatively low health Kill Ogom first
Dreamscythe & Weaver Pit of Sacrifice Acid Breath and Wing Flap from both dragons Tank against a wall to control positioning
Avatar of Hakkar (optional) Sanctum of the Fallen God Must be summoned; not required for progression See Critical Mechanics — summonable even without an active quest
Morphaz & Hazzas Chamber of the Dreamer Same kit as Dreamscythe and Weaver Tank against a wall here too
Shade of Eranikus Eranikus’s Cave War Stomp, Deep Slumber, Thrash, Acid Breath Final boss; only killable after Jammal’an is dead

Critical Mechanics

The Avatar of Hakkar is a real hidden encounter. You don’t need The God Hakkar quest active to summon him — a Yeh’kinya’s Scroll works on its own. Most groups never realize this fight is accessible at all. It’s involved enough that we’ve given it its own dedicated guide.

All six Atal’ai Defenders must die before Jammal’an becomes reachable. There’s no way to skip any of them — plan your route through the Sanctuary balconies to make sure none get missed.

Quests

Sunken Temple carries a quest list on top of a substantial class specific quest category. See our complete Sunken Temple Quests Guide and our dedicated Sunken Temple Class Quests Guide for the full breakdown of each.

Tips & Tricks

Skip the Basement unless your group specifically wants Spawn of Hakkar’s loot. Most efficient runs head straight for the main path instead.

Track all six Atal’ai Defenders carefully. Missing one means Jammal’an simply won’t be reachable, forcing a backtrack through the Sanctuary.

Decide on the Avatar of Hakkar before you start. It’s optional, but skipping it without realizing it’s accessible means missing real content most groups never see.

Bring real positioning discipline for both dragon pair fights. Dreamscythe/Weaver and Morphaz/Hazzas share the same demanding kit — get comfortable with the mechanic once, and the second fight is easy.
