Patch Classic WoW

Overview

Maraudon is a sprawling cave system beneath Desolace, split into two outer wings that both feed into one inner area, Earth Song Falls, where the dungeon’s real prize waits: Princess Theradras. A full clear through both outer wings takes over an hour, but there’s a well known shortcut that most experienced groups actually use instead.

The Scepter of Celebras lets your group teleport directly to Earth Song Falls, skipping both outer wings entirely. See our full Scepter of Celebras guide for how to get one, and our Princess Run guide for how experienced groups use it to farm efficiently.

Dungeon Sections

Section Also Known As What’s There
Purple Side The Wicked Grotto Lord Vyletongue, one of two bosses needed for the Scepter chain
Orange Side Foulspore Cavern Noxxion and Razorlash; Noxxion drops the other Scepter-chain item
Poison Falls Celebras the Cursed, who transforms after death into a quest-giver, plus the rare Meshlok the Harvester
Earth Song Falls The Green Wing Landslide, Tinkerer Gizlock, Rotgrip, and the final boss, Princess Theradras

Boss Quick Reference

Boss Section Key Mechanic Priority
Lord Vyletongue Purple Stealthed guards, random teleports mid-fight Not especially dangerous; two of his four guards can be pulled without aggroing him
Noxxion Orange Splits into non-elite adds partway through, reforms after they’re killed Clear the adds promptly to progress the fight
Razorlash Orange Applies a stacking bleed effect Manage healing as the stacks build over a longer fight
Celebras the Cursed Poison Falls Transforms into a friendly quest-giver after death See our Scepter of Celebras guide for the full chain this unlocks
Meshlok the Harvester (rare) Poison Falls Random spawn, not guaranteed Optional bonus encounter
Landslide Earth Song Falls AoE trample, plus a stun-inducing stomp Tank should keep back to a wall to avoid knockback
Tinkerer Gizlock Earth Song Falls Channeled flame attack, ranged Shoot, AoE Bomb Group should stack in melee range to avoid Shoot; turn him away during the flame channel
Rotgrip Earth Song Falls Stacking bleed, found swimming in the pool Optional; pull him to shallow water to avoid underwater combat issues
Princess Theradras Earth Song Falls Ranged boulder throws, a knockback-and-damage Dust Field Final boss; see Critical Mechanics for positioning
NOTE

Rotgrip and Tinkerer Gizlock are both fully optional relative to reaching Princess Theradras. Most efficiency focused groups skip both unless they specifically want the loot either one drops.

Critical Mechanics

Princess Theradras’s Dust Field punishes bad positioning

She periodically knocks back anyone standing close to her while also damaging them — and if you’re near an edge when this happens, you can be thrown off entirely. Keep the fight centered, away from any drop-offs.

Landslide’s stomp stuns the whole group for 5 seconds

Combined with his knockback on the tank, this fight punishes poor positioning more than raw damage. Keep the tank’s back to a wall to prevent being thrown out of position during the stun window.

Quests

Maraudon carries a quest list beyond the Scepter of Celebras chain, including one quest that only becomes available after Princess Theradras is dead. See our complete Maraudon Quests Guide for the full breakdown.

Tips & Tricks

Decide on full clear vs. Scepter run before you start. These are two truly different experiences — a full clear takes well over an hour, while a Scepter equipped group can reach Princess Theradras in under 45 minutes.

Skip Rotgrip and Tinkerer Gizlock unless you want their specific loot. Neither is required to progress toward Princess Theradras.

Position Princess Theradras away from ledges before you commit to the fight. Her Dust Field knockback becomes far more dangerous near any drop-off.

Bring real crowd control or burst damage for Noxxion’s split phase. Letting the spawned adds linger just extends a fight that doesn’t need to run long.
