Overview
Fury Warriors are Classic’s premier dual-wielding melee DPS spec — a rage-fueled, priority-list playstyle built around keeping
Bloodthirst and
Whirlwind on cooldown while managing rage so it never caps or runs dry. The rotation itself is simple to learn, but the spec is unusually gear-dependent: a Fury Warrior in pre-raid greens feels weak, while the same player in raid gear can fight for the top of the meters.
Fury has no mana to manage and very little raid-utility overhead — once you’re geared, essentially all of your energy goes into pure damage output rather than juggling support responsibilities.
Strengths & Weaknesses
- Top-tier sustained single-target DPS once geared
- Self-sufficient rage generation, no mana to manage
- Scales harder with gear than almost any other spec
- Genuinely useful AoE via Whirlwind and Cleave
- Zero raid-utility tax on your DPS — you’re a pure damage slot
- Miserable in pre-raid gear — you will feel weak early
- Extremely weapon-dependent; bad weapons cripple your damage
- 27% hit cap for full accuracy is nearly unreachable at 60
- No ranged options — pure melee, no fallback for movement fights
- Rage generation dries up fast against low-damage-taken bosses
Talents
The standard raid build spends 17 points in Arms and 34 points in Fury, picking up both ranks of
Impale in Arms and the full Fury damage/rage backbone, including
Flurry and
Unbridled Wrath.

Key Choices:
Stat Priority
- 1
- Hit Rating
dual-wielding has two separate hit caps: 8% for special attacks (Bloodthirst, Whirlwind, Heroic Strike) and 27% for white-damage auto-attacks. Target 8% — that’s what protects your actual rotation.
- 2
- Strength
every point gives 2 Attack Power; nearly all your plate gear will carry this.
- 3
- Critical Strike
crits trigger Flurry, and Flurry uptime is a huge chunk of sustained Fury damage.
- 4
- Agility
a secondary contributor to crit chance, common on the same gear that already has Strength.
Don’t chase the 27% white-damage hit cap. It’s nearly unreachable at level 60 and the 8% special-attack cap is what actually protects your damage.
Rotation
OPENER
- 1.
buff before the pull if you’re responsible for it.
- 2.
use if you need an immediate shot of starting rage.
- 3.
your first attack once in melee range.
- 4.
follow up as your secondary opener hit.
PRIORITY
- 1.
on cooldown, every time it’s up.
- 2.
on cooldown, as your secondary attack.
- 3.
fill gaps, especially early while Sunder is still stacking.
- 4.
or
Cleave use only when you have excess rage you won’t otherwise spend; these replace your next auto-attack rather than costing a separate global.
- 5.
once the target drops below 20% health, this takes over the priority list.
AOE
- 1.
your primary AoE tool, worth using even against a single target.
- 2.
replaces Heroic Strike as your rage dump against multiple targets.
- 3.
prioritize the main kill target if the pack has one.
Consumables
- Flask
Best-in-slot survivability flask; expensive but standard for progression raiding
- Elixir
+25 Agility, +2% crit — the standard battle elixir
- Elixir
+25 Strength — alternative/stacking guardian elixir
- Food
+20 Strength for 15 minutes — strong DPS food buff
- Potion
Instant rage burst + Strength; save for execute phase or rage-starved moments
- Weapon Buff
+2% crit to all attacks; Horde with Windfury should apply to off-hand only
- Buff Item
+Attack Power; don’t stack these two together, pick one
Gear
Prioritize weapon upgrades above almost everything else — Fury’s damage is more weapon-dependent than any stat on your armor. Once your weapons are solid, chase Strength and Critical Strike on the rest of your gear.
- Main-Hand Weapon
Fast, high-DPS one-hander from raid drops
Quality dungeon-farmed one-hander pre-raid
- Off-Hand Weapon
Second fast one-hander — don’t equip a bad off-hand just to fill the slot
Wait until you have two good weapons before committing to dual-wield
- Trinket
On-use Strength/AP proc trinkets
Any trinket with a straightforward Strength or AP passive
Tips & Tricks
Don’t chase the wrong hit cap: Nearly every Fury guide gets asked this — you need 8% for your special attacks, not 27%. Gearing past 8% for white-damage accuracy is a poor use of itemization.
Don’t equip a slow weapon “for the damage number”: Fury wants speed in both hands, not raw per-hit damage. A slow weapon actively hurts your
Flurry uptime and rage generation.
Don’t spam Heroic Strike reflexively:
Heroic Strike replaces your next auto-attack rather than costing a separate global cooldown. Use it specifically to dump excess rage, not as a default filler button.
Don’t dual-wield too early while leveling: Before you have two decent weapons, a single two-hander often outperforms a bad dual-wield setup.
