Overview
Scarlet Monastery has a smaller quest count than its sheer size might suggest — most of the dungeon’s value comes from grinding and boss drops, not quest volume. What quests do exist are worth planning around carefully, since several require killing bosses across multiple wings in a single visit, and one has an unusual lore restriction most players never notice. Given how large this dungeon actually is, it’s easy to walk past a quest objective entirely without realizing it, which is exactly why a full breakdown by wing is worth having rather than relying on memory mid run.
The Cathedral wing has no quests unique to it — but both factions’ main multi-wing quest requires clearing Cathedral’s bosses as part of a larger objective. You’ll still need to get there either way.
Multi-Wing Quests
Both of these quests require the exact same three fights — Loksey, Herod, and the Mograine/Whitemane duo — meaning they’re really the same objective in two faction specific wrappers, not two actually different content paths. Alliance players pay for it with a longer prerequisite chain; Horde players can pick it up directly.
Rewards differ by faction. Alliance players choose between
Black Menace,
Bonebiter, or
Orb of Lorica, alongside 4,700 experience and Stormwind reputation. Horde players choose between
Sword of Omen,
Prophetic Cane, or
Dragon’s Blood Necklace, alongside 5,150 experience and Undercity reputation. Neither reward pool is objectively better than the other — pick based on your class and current weapon slot rather than assuming one faction got the stronger deal.
Graveyard Wing Quests
Vorrel’s Revenge is unusual in where it sends you: you pick it up inside Scarlet Monastery itself, but the actual objective is an entirely different zone. Don’t expect to finish this one in the same trip you started it.
Library Wing Quests
Compendium of the Fallen has a real lore restriction: Undead characters cannot complete it. If you’re playing Forsaken, the quest simply won’t be available to you.
The Class Quest
Mages get a real bonus objective in the Library:
Rituals of Power, which leads to a followup quest rewarding your choice of
Icefury Wand,
Nether Force Wand, or
Ragefire Wand. It’s easy to miss if you’re not specifically playing a Mage, since nothing about the main quest list points to it — no other class gets anything comparable in this dungeon.
Tips & Tricks
Pick up everything you can before you clear a wing, not after. Several quests require items or bosses you’ll walk straight past if you’re not already tracking them, and backtracking through a wing you’ve already cleared wastes real time.
Plan Vorrel’s Revenge as a separate trip, not a same run objective. The turn in location is nowhere near the dungeon, so treat the pickup as a heads-up for later rather than something to chase immediately mid-run.
Don’t skip Rituals of Power if you’re a Mage. The wand choice at the end is a real, worthwhile upgrade for the level range, not a throwaway reward you can safely ignore.
