Overview
Healing priest is Classic’s most well rounded healer — strong single target throughput for tank healing, real (if limited) AoE options for group damage, and the class defining raid buffs Divine Spirit and Power Word: Fortitude.
Discipline exists as a real alternative build in Classic, but it’s not a separate role the way it is in later expansions — it’s a healing output tradeoff made specifically for Power Infusion, a strong raid DPS cooldown. Most raids want Holy as the default and only ask for Discipline situationally.
Strengths & Weaknesses
- Best in class singletarget and tank healing throughput
- Real raid utility through Divine Spirit and Power Word: Fortitude
- Flexible toolkit — fast emergency heals, efficient sustained healing, and HoTs
- Useful crowd control via Shackle Undead and fear
- Low mobility
- AoE healing is limited to your own party group, not the full raid
- Mana management is a constant, real concern
- Emergency response (Flash Heal) costs noticeably more mana than your sustained options
Talents
The standard build invests deep into Holy for
Spiritual Healing and
Spiritual Guidance with remaining points typically going into Discipline for
Meditation and
Mental Agility — mana efficiency talents that matter given how much you’re casting.

Key Choices:
Healing Focus — close to mandatory for any content where you’re taking damage while casting; reduces the annoying and costly interruption of spell pushback.
Spiritual Guidance — makes Spirit a strong stat for you by converting a real chunk of it into Spell Power on top of its normal mana benefits.
Inspiration — a real mitigation tool, giving your tanks bonus armor whenever your direct heals crit them.- Discipline (
Power Infusion build) — a real alternative for guilds that want a raid DPS cooldown more than maximum healing output, at the cost of your own throughput. Situational, not the default.
Stat Priority
- 1
- Healing Power
the direct equivalent of Attack Power for a healer. Prioritize it above everything else.
- 2
- Spirit
excellent for Priest specifically, both for mana regeneration and, with Spiritual Guidance talented, direct Spell Power conversion.
- 3
- MP5
surprisingly strong once your Spirit is solid; the combination can let you avoid running dry in longer fights.
- 4
- Intellect
useful for mana pool and a small amount of crit, but less impactful once Spirit and MP5 are covered.
- 5
- Spell Critical Chance
the lowest priority stat on this list for Holy specifically.
Don’t chase Spell Crit on gear at the expense of Healing Power or Spirit.
Rotation
OPENER
- 1.
apply to your assigned targets before the pull.
- 2.
pre cast on your primary healing target if you expect immediate damage.
- 3.
Position
yourself where you can maintain line of sight without being in the danger zone of incoming mechanics.
PRIORITY
- 1.
your default spell against light, steady tank damage.
- 2.
switch to this once damage intensifies; strong healing per mana spent, at a longer cast time.
- 3.
apply whenever it’s safe to do so, especially on targets about to take sustained damage.
- 4.
followed by repeated
Flash Heal — your emergency response when a target’s health drops fast. Downrank back to your normal spells once the immediate danger passes
AOE
- 1.
your two group-heal options, but both are limited to your own party group rather than the full raid. Use them to top off your assigned group during AoE damage phases, but don’t expect them to cover raid-wide healing on their own.
Consumables
- Food
Restores mana every 5 seconds — real, constant regen
- Elixir
+25 Intellect for a bigger mana pool
- Potion
Keep a full stack. Don’t let mana be the reason a heal doesn’t land
- Situational
Greater Protection Potions
Match to the encounter’s dominant damage type (fire, frost, shadow etc)
Gear
Chase Healing Power first, then Spirit specifically if you’ve talented Spiritual Guidance. Don’t fully ignore Stamina — surviving is part of the job description too.
- Weapon
Any weapon or stat stick with Healing Power
Spell Power items as a fallback
- Trinket
Healing Power or mana regen proc trinkets
Straightforward Intellect trinkets
- Libram-equivalent gear
Highest available Spirit/Healing Power items
Any upgrade over your current gear
Tips & Tricks
Downrank aggressively when damage is light. A lower-rank
Heal that lands cleanly beats a higher rank cast that overshoots and wastes mana.
Reserve
Flash Heal for emergencies. Its mana cost is real, and leaning on it as a default spam heal will empty your mana pool faster than you’d expect.
Coordinate raid buffs with other Priests.
Divine Spirit and
Power Word: Fortitude don’t need to be reapplied by every Priest in the raid — communicate who’s covering what.
Don’t assume your AoE heals cover the whole raid.
Prayer of Healing and
Holy Nova are party-limited. Plan your positioning around your assigned group, not the raid as a whole.
