Overview

Blackrock Depths has the largest quest list of any dungeon in Classic — dozens of real objectives spread across the dungeon itself and the surrounding zones. Most players never attempt all of them in a single run, and that’s the right instinct. This guide breaks the list down by faction and category so you can plan a realistic route instead of trying to track everything at once.

Two BRD quest chains get their own dedicated guides given how much they involve: Attunement to the Core (Molten Core’s attunement process) and Dark Iron Legacy (the Shadowforge Key). See our Molten Core Attunement Guide and Shadowforge Key guide for those specifically — they’re not repeated here.

Neutral Quests

Quest Level Pickup Objective
Ribbly Screwspigot 48-53 Yuka Screwspigot, Burning Steppes (requires “Yuka Screwspigot” prerequisite from Tanaris) Kill Ribbly Screwspigot in the Grim Guzzler, loot Ribbly’s Head
The Love Potion 50-54 Mistress Nagmara, inside the Grim Guzzler Completed inside the dungeon
The Heart of the Mountain 50-55 Maxwort Uberglint, Burning Steppes Shareable with your group
A Taste of Flame 52-58 Cyrus Therepentous, Slither Rock, Burning Steppes Requires killing Bael’Gar and using a specific item on his corpse

NOTE

Ribbly Screwspigot is one of the only hostile NPCs in the otherwise peaceful Grim Guzzler. Talking to him specifically turns him and his allies aggressive — save this interaction for when you’re actually ready to fight, not while you’re still exploring the tavern.

Alliance Quests

Quest Level Pickup Objective
The Good Stuff 50 Oralius, Burning Steppes Shareable with your group
Overmaster Pyron 48 Jalinda Sprig, Burning Steppes Shareable; kill Overmaster Pyron
Incendius! 48 Jalinda Sprig, Burning Steppes Not shareable
Kharan Mighthammer 50 King Magni Bronzebeard, Ironforge Leads to further steps inside the dungeon
The Bearer of Bad News Kharan Mighthammer, inside Blackrock Depths Continuation of the Kharan Mighthammer chain
The Fate of the Kingdom 50 King Magni Bronzebeard, Ironforge (requires a longer prerequisite chain) See the dedicated section below
Hurley Blackbreath 50 Ragnar Thunderbrew, Kharanos Completed inside the dungeon

Horde Quests

Quest Level Objective
The Last Element 48 Completed inside the dungeon
The Royal Rescue 48 Completed inside the dungeon
Lost Thunderbrew Recipe 50 Completed inside the dungeon

GOOD TO KNOW

Horde’s quest list here is noticeably shorter than Alliance’s, particularly around the Kharan Mighthammer and Fate of the Kingdom chains, which are Alliance exclusive. This is one of the more lopsided faction splits in any Classic dungeon’s quest content.

The Fate of the Kingdom

This Alliance quest deserves its own callout because its actual objective ties directly into the dungeon’s hardest mechanical decision. The Fate of the Kingdom quest requires defeating Emperor Dagran Thaurissan without killing Princess Moira Bronzebeard — meaning you need to either crowd control her for the entire fight or otherwise avoid landing the killing blow on her specifically, on top of everything else that fight already demands.

NOTE

If you’re not attempting this specific quest, killing Moira is fine and often the simpler approach, since leaving her alive means dealing with her healing on the Emperor the whole fight. Decide as a group before you pull whether anyone actually needs her spared.

Profession Gated Quests

The Spectral Chalice — requires 230 Mining skill to even attempt. Found in the Summoner’s Tomb, this is a  profession gated objective.

A Binding Contract — given by Lokhtos Darkbargainer in the Grim Guzzler, but only if you present him with a Sulfuron Ingot. This ties directly into Thorium Brotherhood reputation and the broader Blacksmithing crafting economy around Molten Core progression.

Tips & Tricks

Don’t try to complete every quest in one visit. With this many objectives spread across multiple zones and both factions, a realistic run means picking a focused subset rather than attempting the entire list.

Decide on Moira’s fate before you pull the Emperor. Whether you’re going for The Fate of the Kingdom or not changes how that fight should actually be played — settle it as a group in advance, not mid fight.

Pick up your Burning Steppes and Badlands quests before you enter. Several objectives are only available outside the dungeon, and walking in without them means a second trip later.
