Yes. New World: Aeternum goes offline on January 31, 2027, on every platform. Amazon announced the date on January 15, 2026, and delisted the game the same day, so it can no longer be bought. If you already own it, you can keep playing until the servers close.

The Key Dates

Date What Happened
October 28, 2025 Amazon announces Season 10 and Nighthaven are the final content updates, saying it is “no longer sustainable” to keep supporting the game
January 15, 2026 Shutdown date announced, and the game is delisted from all stores
July 20, 2026 Marks of Fortune and all other in-game purchases end
January 31, 2027 Servers go offline permanently on PlayStation, Xbox Series X/S and Steam

Can You Still Play New World?

Yes, if you bought it before it was delisted. Owners can keep playing on the platform they bought it on, and previous buyers can download and install it again. The Nighthaven season has been extended until the servers close, and world bosses and bonus weeks continue until the end.

What has stopped: there’s no new content after Nighthaven, and Amazon says there will be no more server merges, though bugs and performance are still being monitored.

What Happens to Your Account and Purchases

Your characters go with the servers. When the game goes offline on January 31, 2027, players lose access on every platform. Amazon hasn’t announced any way to export or keep characters.

Marks of Fortune can’t be refunded. The in-game store closed on July 20, 2026, and Amazon has said Marks of Fortune purchases are not refundable.

Refunds for the game go through your platform. Amazon directs recent buyers to the customer support of the platform where they bought New World: Steam, PlayStation or Xbox.

Why Amazon Is Shutting It Down

Amazon’s October 2025 update said it was “no longer sustainable” to continue supporting the game, and named Season 10 and Nighthaven as the last content. Most of the team was let go in Amazon’s October 2025 layoffs. The January 2026 post then set the end date and pulled the game from sale.

It’s an awkward end for a game that had been improving. MMORPG.com named it the Most Improved MMO of 2025, and the Steam version saw some of its highest player counts outside launch during Nighthaven.

Is Anyone Trying to Save It?

Facepunch’s $25 million offer. Shortly after the delisting, Alistair McFarlane, COO of Facepunch, the studio behind Rust and Garry’s Mod, publicly offered Amazon $25 million for New World, saying “games should never die.” He later said the offer began as a joke, but that he had since spoken with current and former Amazon Games staff. Nothing has come of it publicly, and Amazon hasn’t responded.

Project Azoth. In October 2026, Massively OP reported that New World fans have begun work on a rogue server called Project Azoth. It is a fan project with no support from Amazon, and there’s no release date.

Neither is an official way to keep playing. As of now, Amazon hasn’t announced a buyer or any official private-server option.

What to Do Before January 31, 2027

Finish what you want to see. Nighthaven runs until the end, so this is the time for any last world bosses, achievements or screenshots.
